  • Founded in July 2001, KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives describes itself as “a coalition of churches and religious organizations devoted to justice in the community, nationally and internationally.”
  • Runs programs in the areas of: “Aboriginal Rights, Anti-Poverty, Corporate Issues, Ecology, Education and Animation, Global Economic Justice, Health Care, International Human Rights, Partnerships, Refugees and Migration.”
  • According to press reports, in November 2009, the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) denied KAIROS’ application for a $7 million/four-year grant.  A spokesperson for the International Development Minister explained that “[a]fter completing due diligence it was determined that the organization’s project does not meet CIDA’s current priorities.”
  • In 2008, CIDA provided 39.2% of KAIROS’ total revenue ($1,576,000 of $4 million).
  • KAIROS is a primary supporter of the anti-Israel divestment movement in Canada, and distributes documents from the Palestinian NGO Sabeel alleging “illegal and immoral behavior” and “apartheid practices.”
  • KAIROS demonizes Israel through accusations of “war crimes” and “collective punishment.”
  • Supported the Bil’in lawfare case in Canadian courts. This case is one of a series initiated by pro-Palestinian NGOs, including Al Haq, as part of its strategy to exploit Western courts for political goals (“lawfare”), and was dismissed with partial costs on September 18, 2009.
  • Its “resources for education and action” include a publication that describes Zionism as an “ideology of empire, colonialism, and militarism.”
