Palestinian Human Rights Monitoring Group (PHRMG)

  • Founded 1996, based in East Jerusalem.
  • Website www.phrmg.org
  • Funders include Ireland Aid-Development Cooperation Division, The Moriah Fund, Finnish Representative Office to the PA, Foundation for Middle East Peace (FMEP).
  • Executive Director: Bassam Eid. A former senior fieldworker for B'Tselem, during his 7 years there he co-authored a study entitled "Neither Law nor Justice" (August 1995), which detailed human rights abuses of the Palestinian Preventative Security Services.
  • PHRMG " documents human rights violations committed against Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem, regardless of who is responsible." These include deaths of prisoners in PA custody, Palestinian casualties resulting from Palestinian militia action, suicide bombings, executions of suspected collaborators, executions carried out by PA and honor killings. The center also publishes alleged Israeli human rights abuses, often without acknowledging the context of Palestinian terrorism.
  • In a press release on March 22 2004, PHRMG condemned the killing of Hamas-leader, Ahmed Yassin and argued "By such acts of violence, Israel is bringing disaster to its own people." A press release regarding the IDF incursion into Jenin in April 2002 accused the IDF of war crimes and described Palestinian terrorists as "decent fervently patriotic men."
