Palestinian Human Rights Organization (PHRO)

- Established in 1997
- PHRO describes itself as “a volunteer based non-governmental organisation (NGO) operating in Lebanon” and claims to offer “temporary and permanent programs to improve the lives of the approximately 400,000 Palestinian refugees residing on Lebanese territory.”
- PHRO is a member of the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network (EMHRN) and the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), which engage in anti-Israel campaigns.
- PHRO supports the “right of return” of Palestinian refugees and “appeals for diplomatic pressure on Israel” on this issue.
- A report, “Lebanon Crisis…Israel Severe Breaches to the International Law,” on the 2006 War in Lebanon accuses Israel of “genocide,” “collective punishment,” “indiscriminate killings [of] civilians,” and other “human rights violations.”
- In 2006, PHRO received support from the Embassy of the Netherlands in Lebanon and the Protestant Churches in the Netherlands (Kerk in Actie). Additionally, the Ford Foundation provided a multi-year grant of $150,000 for 2006-2008.
