That the Ford Foundation, despite a pledge following the 2001 Durban Conference not to support “groups that promote or condone bigotry or violence or that challenge the very existence of legitimate sovereign states like Israel,” continues to support a number of organizations whose activities are primarily political, and that exploit human rights rhetoric to delegitimize Israel, while undermining efforts towards a peaceful end to the conflict.
Despite a 2003 investigation by the U.S. Congress into its funding of different Palestinian NGOs, a May 2006 NGO Monitor report found that the Ford Foundation has maintained support for organizations such as the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ), Miftah, Al-Haq, Al-Mezan, Shamil, and EMHRN.These NGOs and others focus their efforts on external attacks against , rather than on good governance, development and human rights. The Ford Foundation’s continued funding of such NGOs raises questions about its commitment to its post-Durban guidelines. For more information, click here
