Correspondence with Christian Aid Director Daleep Mukharji, following Gerald Steinberg´s op-ed, "The Unhelpful Hand: Time to Free the Palestinians From NGOs", Wall Street Journal - Europe Gerald M. Steinberg, NGO Monitor April 01, 2005
With regards to Gerald Steinberg´s commentary "The Unhelpful Hand" (editorial page, Jan. 10) it is necessary to point out that Mr. Steinberg and the NGO Monitor have long waged a campaign against those international development, relief and human rights organizations which seek to alleviate poverty and suffering in the Middle East... Letter from NGO Monitor to Ken Roth (In response to HRW's statement to 61st session of the UNCHR) Gerald M. Steinberg, NGO Monitor March 24, 2005
NGO Monitor welcomes the elements in HRW's statement on "Concerns for the 61st Session of the U.N. Commission on Human Rights" (March 2005) that point to a change in your long-standing political agenda. In particular, we support the call on the UNCHR to halt the neglect of "abuses by Palestinian armed groups" (i.e., terrorists), to actively condemn "deliberate and indiscriminant [sic] attacks on civilians" and to... Exchange of Correspondence with Emanuele Giaufret, Head of the Economic and Political Section, Delegation of the European Commission to the State of Israel Gerald M. Steinberg, NGO Monitor March 20, 2005
Your letter in response to NGO Monitor´s report "´ICAHD - EU funding for one-man NGO promoting extremist anti-Israeli agenda" hopefully marks the first step towards EU transparency with respect to NGO funding. While most of your letter repeated standard EU claims to be supporting peace efforts or discussed unrelated issues, such as Galileo satellites, the substantive response admitted EU funding for Mr. Halper´s systematic denunciation of Israeli "apartheid". At the same time... Daleep Mukharji: Our Enemy is Poverty & NGO Monitor Response Simon Plosker, NGO Monitor March 13, 2005
With relations between Christian Aid and supporters of Israel having come under a good deal of strain in recent times, the charity’s director, Dr Daleep Mukarji, sets out his organisation’s position in relation to Israel and the Palestinians... "Medecins du Monde Report Lacking in Credibility" Simon J Plosker, NGO Monitor March 07, 2005
Almost a third of West Bank Palestinian villages will be denied free and open access to healthcare facilities once the Israeli government has completed constructing the West Bank barrier, says a report by the French non-governmental organisation Medecins du Monde...
Exchange of Correspondence with William Bell, Advocacy Officer, Christian Aid NGO Monitor Digest (Vol. 3 No. 6) January 21, 2005
Christian Aid wholly agrees with Edie Friedman et al that one of the few "good things" to have come from the Asian tsunami was the bonding of humanity across the races and religions in a common bid to bring succour to the afflicted... Wall St. Journal (Europe) exchange of letters between NGO Monitor and HRW in response to Gerald Steinberg's oped article, Jan/Feb 2005 Gerald M. Steinberg, NGO Monitor January 10, 2005
Yesterday’s elections in the Palestinian territories closed the book on the Arafat era. The end of four decades of terror and corruption rightly generates great optimism about the Israeli-Palestinian relationship. Mahmoud Abbas, the new leader, can now move to end the chaos in Palestinian society and channel the massive aid flows away from off-shore bank accounts and illegal arms to economic development... "Human Rights: Watching the Watchers" Gerald M. Steinberg, NGO Monitor, Jerusalem Post December 29, 2004
HRW and Professor Gerald Steinberg engage in debate following critical opinion pieces in The Jerusalem Post and The Canadian Jewish News. Exchange with Reverend Morrison, Church and Society Officer, Wales, In response to NGO Monitor report on Christian Aid's anti-Israel agenda Simon Plosker, NGO Monitor December 05, 2004
Thank you for your letter, which we have considered carefully, and whose core premise we cannot accept. You claim that the critiques of attacks on Israeli policy "also generates a real risk of anti-Semitism worldwide - by giving the impression that Israeli policy cannot be criticised or separated from the nature of being anti-Semitic - a very foolish and dangerous position to take up." Thus... Mennonite Central Committee, Ronald J.R. Mathies, Executive Director, in response to NGO Monitor´s Analysis of 15 October, 2004, October/ November 2004 Simon Plosker, NGO Monitor November 04, 2004
Your report claims that MCC is “diverting the resources provided for humanitarian activities and abusing them for political incitement and demonization of Israel.” There are two mistakes in this claim. First, the implication that MCC is “diverting” resources unbeknownst to our donors is mistaken. As your report notes, MCC is a “relief, service, and peace agency” of various Mennonite and Brethren in Christ churches in the United States and Canada. MCC is transparent about ...
