Op-eds

"Amnesty´s Disgrace"
,

Amnesty's Disgrace (Hebrew): Amnesty International's report on the Lebanon war is amateurish. A few days after the battles halted, officials from this human rights organization paraded out a report on Israeli activities in Lebanon. Regarding the facts, there is no disagreement. The source for the disagreement between Amnesty's version and Israel is the reason for these military actions.... While the suffering of the Lebanese cannot be denied,
this in itself is not evidence to support claims of Israeli "war crimes"...

"Winning the PR War"
,

Although Israel has won decisive victories on the battlefield, she has faced numerous losses in the court of world public opinion. Leading the charges against Israel are non-governmental organizations (NGOs), who claim to impartially monitor human rights and humanitarian needs around the globe. Due to a “halo effect” which grants legitimacy to anyone claiming to speak from a perspective of human rights, these NGOs have come to define how the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is understood by the media and politicians. But as this past summer’s events in Gaza demonstrate, NGOs frequently fail to live up to their mission statements by engaging in particularistic and political agendas...

"Human Rights Watch has some explaining to do"
,

"The New York Sun attacked Ken Roth as an anti-Semite for Roth´s remark that Israel´s behavior was an "[a]n eye for an eye - or more accurately in this case twenty eyes for an eye — [which] may have been the morality of some more primitive moment." Whether Mr. Roth is an anti-Semite in fact is a question I cannot answer, but the remark itself certainly sounds like an anti-Jewish slur. Ms. Brooks pretends the entire incident never occured..."

"Question authority - unless it's Israel"
,

"Ever wonder what it's like to be a pariah? Publish something sharply critical of Israeli government policies and you'll find out. If you're lucky, you'll merely discover that you've been uninvited to some dinner parties. If you're less lucky, you'll be the subject of an all-out attack by neoconservative pundits and accused of rabid anti-Semitism..."

"Lawyer Says Rights Group Demonize Israel"

Noted Harvard law Professor Alan Dershowitz has accused Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch of falsely demonizing Israel for its conduct in Lebanon...

"Amnesty Int´l Redefines ´War Crimes´ "
,

The two principal "human rights" organizations are in a race to the bottom to see which group can demonize Israel with the most absurd legal arguments and most blatant factual mis-statements...

"Amnesty International´s Biased Definition of War Crimes: Whatever Israel Does to Defend its Citizens"
,

The two principal "human rights" organizations are in a race to the bottom to see which group can demonize Israel with the most absurd legal arguments and most blatant factual misstatements. Until last week, Human Rights Watch enjoyed a prodigious lead, having "found" - contrary to what every newspaper in the world had reported and what everyone saw with their own eyes on television - "no cases in which Hezbollah deliberately used civilians as shields to protect them from retaliatory IDF attack."...

"Human Rights Watch Strikes Again"
,

Sarah Leah Whitson, Executive Director of Human Rights Watch´s Middle East and North Africa Division, takes issue with my critique of Human Rights Watch´s anti-Israel bias. As I noted earlier, I critiqued HRW´s accusation that Israel had committed war crimes by bombing the Lebanese village of Srifa, where, according to HRW, there was "no evidence that there had been Hizbullah military activity around the areas targeted by the IDF during or just prior to the attack: no spent ammunition, abandoned weapons or military equipment, trenches, or dead or wounded fighters."

"Ken Roth´s Blood Libel"
,

A Malaysian newspaper recently published an article headlined "Israel deliberately targeting civilians, says Human Rights Watch."
Turkish newspapers ran similar items, repeating HRW´s statements that "Israel intentionally bombs civilians."...

"Human Rights Watch Blames the Victim"

When rendering judgment on the recent warfare in the Mideast, the souls at Human Rights Watch did sometimes scold Hezbollah, when Hezbollah was being particularly naughty. Bad Hezbollah! the rights watchers clucked, and they waggled their fingers and sent Hezbollah to bed without supper...
