What is an NGO?

That the Ford Foundation, despite a pledge following the 2001 Durban Conference not to support “groups that promote or condone bigotry or violence or that challenge the very existence of legitimate sovereign states like Israel,” continues to support a number of organizations whose activities are primarily political, and that exploit human rights rhetoric to delegitimize Israel, while undermining efforts towards a peaceful end to the conflict.

Nineteen NGOs issued 144 statements during the 5 weeks of fighting in the 2006 Lebanon War, most of which were more critical of Israel than of Hezbollah.

Media outlets often report NGO claims as fact, without independent verification?

that the European Union funds NGOs that actively oppose official EU policy?

that in 2004, Human Rights Watch, the largest human rights organization based in the United States, issued more press releases on Israel than on Iran, Syria, Libya, and Saudi Arabia combined?

That the European Union is a major source of funding for many political NGOs that persistently campaign against Israel in international forums, employ biased rhetoric aimed at de-legitimizing Israeli security policies and are fundamentally politicized organizations.

That NGOs were prominent in spreading false rumors of a "massacre" in the immediate aftermath of Israel´s operation Defensive Shield in April 2002 against Palestinian terrorist networks within the Jenin refugee camp? And that many NGOs continue to promote this discredited narrative, despite the evidence?

That many NGOs exploit the rhetoric of human rights to justify a variety of boycott campaigns against Israel? That Amnesty International has used its public relations and political organization to press Caterpillar to end sales to Israel? And in Britain for example, "War on Want" is highly active in calls for boycotts and divestment.

That several NGOS, led by Adalah and Mossawa, have increased their efforts to undermine the existence of the State of Israel by deconstructing fundamental elements of the State? In 2006, Mossawa released a legal paper proposing an Israeli constitution, calling for the eradication of the Israeli flag and national anthem, the right of the Arab minority to have a veto over matters of national import, and the immediate implementation of the “right of return.”...
