[Excerpt:]

"An Israeli watchdog that focuses on non-governmental organizations critical of Israel has sued the European Union, charging a lack of transparency in its funding the groups. Gerald Steinberg, director of NGO Monitor, said the suit was filed in Luxembourg to force the EU to release funding details, because many NGOs are "demonizing" Israel. Some NGO’s issue reports critical of Israel, charging abuse of Palestinians. Others handle development projects. EU spokesman David Kriss rejected the charges. He said the EU backs projects, not organizations, and information is readily available. Steinberg said Wednesday the EU has funneled about $46 million (33 million euros) to about 90 NGO’s in Israel and the Palestinian territories over three years."
