NGOs capitalize on ideological and political antagonism within the UN to bring their anti-Israel campaigns to the international stage. The devastating impact of NGOs is compounded by the institutional bias of UN bodies, such as the Human Rights Council, the Special Rapporteur on Palestinian issues, and biased “fact-finding” missions.
Goldstones Washington Post op-ed, retracting the substance of the UNHRC Goldstone Report, undermines the credibility of the NGOs that provided the false allegations. In response, NGOs and NGO officials have issued numerous statements distorting and rewriting Goldstones words, in an effort to preserve their credibility.
Another UN "mini-Durban" conference, held under the auspices of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People. European- and NIF-funded groups are participating.
Problematic and unsupported NGO casualty statistics were repeated in the media, the Goldstone Report, and other NGO publications. Will they be re-evaluated?
John Ging has been the head of UNRWA in Gaza since 2006. In this role, Ging has promoted political warfare targeting Israel.
On July 13 and 14, 2010, Israel was reviewed by the United Nations Human Rights Committee as part of its periodic review of country compliance with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. To highlight the activity of NGOs in furthering the delegitimization of Israel within UN frameworks, in contrast to upholding the norms of universal human rights, NGO Monitor submitted its own report to the Committee.
NIF-funded groups and their publications were featured centrally in the Goldstone report. Many of these citations referred to speculative issues unrelated to the conflict in Gaza, seeking to brand Israeli democracy as repressive. BTselem, Adalah, ACRI, Gisha, PHR-I, and Yesh Din have continued supporting Goldstone and lobbying governments to legitimize the reports extreme biases and endorse its recommendations. Some NIF grantees campaign against the legitimacy of Israel as a Jewish democratic state. Others are active in worldwide boycotts, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) campaigns targeting Israel.
