Patrick Martin’s article Arab-Israeli Group Takes Canadian Agency To Court Over Terminated Funding (July 1) invites an inference that NGO Monitor triggered funding cuts to KAIROS. Our December, 2009, reports were published after media reports of funding cuts, and provided background information on KAIROS’ bias and political campaigns. The same is true regarding Rights and Democracy.

Mada al-Carmel’s role in the My Land, Space, Body and Sexuality: Palestinians in the Shadow of the Wall campaign claimed to “expose Israel’s racist policies.” This inflammatory rhetoric is inconsistent with Mr. Martin’s description of it as a “social research centre.”

The article makes no mention of Mada al-Carmel’s Haifa Declaration (2007), which offensively accuses Israel of “exploiting” the Holocaust “at the expense of the Palestinian people.” Mada’s director promotes “one-state” formulas, which is equivalent to calls for eliminating Israel.

The record shows that NGO Monitor distinguishes between destructive agendas and constructive humanitarian and peace-building activities.
