Prof. Gerald Steinberg reminds us of the abject failure of organizations that claim to promote human rights principles. Ignoring the pleas of victims around the world, they routinely exploit the rhetoric of international law as a weapon in the political war targeting Israel.
Prof. Steinberg analyzes the Israeli government's preparedness for "standard claims made by ideological groups like Amnesty and Oxfam," which "made a huge difference in the second Gaza war."
When it comes to deadly attacks against Israelis, the silence of these NGOs is deafening, while their readiness to condemn Israel without any reliable fact-finding is indicative of a deep anti-Israel agenda.
None of these groups condemned the rocket attacks from Gaza - each one a war crime - targeting Israeli civilians, which had intensified in the week before and triggered the Israeli response. Updated November 22, 2012
In sharp contrast to its inaction on Syria, Oxfam can always be relied upon to direct overwhelming energy and resources to pummelling Syrias democratic neighbour, Israel.
Between April 2011 and September 2012, Oxfam International and its branches have released only 3 statements and petitions condemning the ongoing violence in Syria. In comparison, Oxfam condemned Israel in at least 9 statements in the same time frame.
The EU and Israel completed talks to increase trade and diplomatic cooperation. NGOs released statements condemning the EU for not using negotiations to sanction Israel, including calls for freezing and retracting mutually beneficial EU-Israel Association Agreement.
