EU Product Labeling Is NGOs' First Step to BDS
For years, the NGO network has pushed product labelling as a stepping stone for full-fledged BDS against Israel, particularly in Europe. They have taken another step in singling out Israel, through the decisions of the French government and the European Court of Justice.
NGO Monitor research shows that the NGOs responsible for promoting labeling, including in France, receive high levels of European government funds to lobby the same European governments.
Founder and President of NGO Monitor Professor Gerald Steinberg:
For anti-Israel groups, product labelling is meant as a “gateway drug” towards BDS and other forms of demonization. We have seen these powerful NGOs at work in the short-lived Airbnb boycott, the targeting of Israel in FIFA, the proposed UN discriminatory blacklist, and elsewhere. Product labelling is the next step in demonization.”
