By taking a highly politicized course in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, The Lancet has ostracized, and to a large extent, demonized Israel and the Israeli medical community.
By refusing to seriously address the politicization of The Lancet and the antisemitism of some of its authors, the medical journal and its editor Richard Horton have demonized the Israeli medical community and the Jewish people.
Yitzhak Santis asserts that if Lancet editor Richard Horton is serious about making amends, he should take serious steps that would signal a tangible policy change by The Lancet and its publisher, Reed Elsevier.
Gerald Steinberg maintains that the pressure must continue until Richard Horton, the Lancet, and Elsevier issue clear apologies, retract the hate-filled articles that were never worthy of publication, and create mechanisms to prevent a recurrence.
Yitzhak Santis asserts that Richard Horton must apologize, retract the mendacious Gaza letter and decouple The Lancet institutionally from individuals and groups that forgoe medical ethics to vilify Israel.
Hortons editorial in this weeks Lancet marks another step towards ending the exploitation of this journal for demonizing Israel. At the same time, however, Horton failed to retract or apologize for his own central responsibility for the mendacious An Open Letter for the People of Gaza in July 2014.
