On January 12, 2021, the Israeli NGO B’Tselem launched a high-visibility international campaign, under the headline, “A regime of Jewish supremacy from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea: This is apartheid,” escalating its political and ideological condemnations that go far beyond criticism of policies.
A number of Israeli NGOs, including those funded by European governments and the New Israel Fund, have been actively encouraging and facilitating an International Criminal Court investigation into Israeli officials.
On June 29-30, 2017, the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP) held a forum to “mark fifty years of Israeli occupation.” As anticipated, the event “Ending the Occupation: Creating the Space for Human Rights, Development and a Just Peace,” featured antisemitic rhetoric, calls for BDS (boycott, divestment, and sanctions), and demonization campaigns against Israel’s existence.
Prof. Gerald Steinberg argues that those coming out in support of B'Tselem's presentation at the UN, and against PM Netanyahu and other officials, should instead engage with Israel's elected representatives through open discussions and accepted guidelines.
Haaretz has helped B'Tselem with an intense campaign to counter criticism regarding its presentation at an informal UN Security Council session.
