The Institute for NGO Research presents this submission to the Committee in advance of its review of the Guidelines for Observation and Exclusion of Companies from the Government Pension Fund Global (GPFG).
In April 2019, the Essex Business and Human Rights Project (EBHR) at Essex University (UK) and Norwegian People's Aid published “Investor Obligations in Occupied Territories: A Report on the Norwegian Government Pension Fund. The report exemplifies how not to conduct human rights due diligence in situations of conflict and primarily reflects the ideological agendas of its pro-BDS backers.
The UN Human Rights Council and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights have joined the ranks of leading BDS groups by issuing a defamatory blacklist of 112 Israeli and foreign companies, falsely accusing them of committing human rights violations.
Trócaire and producer John McColgan released a 50-minute documentary that claims to explore “the impact of ongoing conflict and military occupation on the people who live there.” The documentary promotes a one-sided Palestinian narrative and features interviews with officials from political NGOs, as well as with Haaretz columnist Gideon Levy. Israeli MFA spokesperson Emmanuel Nahshon also appears sporadically as an artificial form of “balance.”
NGOs continue to provide UN bodies and parliaments with distorted and misleading information, perpetuating the demonization and delegitimization of Israel around the world.
