On March 27, 2016, the New York Daily News published an article by Ziva Dahl, detailing Rockefeller Brothers Fund (RBF) support for anti-Israel NGOs. Referencing NGO Monitor, Dahl highlights the stark contrast between RBF’s stated goal of “helping to advance social change that contributes to a more just, sustainable and peaceful world” and its financial contributions to organizations that oppose Jewish self-determination and/or advance anti-Israel BDS campaigns. These include groups such as Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), and Zochrot.

NGO Monitor has analyzed and reported on RBF’s funding for these anti-Israel actors:

  • JVP received a $140,000 grant from RBF in June 2015 and seeks to drive a “wedge” in the Jewish community over support for Israel. The group is currently involved in a campaign targeting Airbnb and is active in promoting BDS on campuses throughout the United States.
  • AFSC received a $50,000 grant from RBF in September 2015 and is involved in BDS campaigns on campuses and churches in the United States and partners with JVP in training BDS activists. The group also works to encourage Israeli teenagers to dodge the draft, a violation of Israeli law.
  • Zochrot received a $20,000 grant from RBF in December 2015 and denies Jewish self-determination and advocates for the dismantling of the State of Israel. The organization calls for Israel to be “de-Zionized,” and insists on the “repealing [of] the 1950 Law of Return, which grants automatic and privileged citizenship to Jews, and prioritizing naturalization of Palestinian refugees in its stead.”
