The Be'ersheva District Court's convicted Mohammad El-Halabi for diverting aid money and resources from the international humanitarian organization World Vision to Hamas.
On November 3, 2021, the Israeli Registrar of Non-Profits petitioned the Jerusalem District Court to dissolve an Israeli non-profit organization belonging to the international aid agency, World Vision. As justification for the request and following a multi-year investigation, the Registrar alleges that the local non-profit did not implement humanitarian projects as it claimed to and conducted financial transactions for purposes other than its stated goals – including providing funds to Hamas. Moreover, the Registrar charges that the non-profit’s executive and oversight frameworks were non-functional and ineffective.
On July 27, 2021, Human Rights Watch (HRW) published a report alleging that Israel committed war crimes in its May 2021 conflict with Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Gaza. This report serves as another vehicle for HRW’s ongoing campaign lobbying the International Criminal Court.
NGO Monitor research has identified 50 incidents in which Hamas and Islamic Jihad operatives killed in Gaza were falsely labeled by NGOs as civilian casualties, or in which civilians killed by Hamas were implicitly attributed to Israel.
Disturbingly, some employees of Belgian Ministry of Development Cooperation, responsible for reviewing, approving and distributing international aid, have previously expressed support for acts of violence and praised Palestinian terror on their social media accounts. Several of these government employees’ posts include violent and antisemitic imagery.
Omar Shakir is scheduled to participate in conference hosted by the Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University. Conference organizers and sponsors, as well as other participants, are linked to various terror groups, including Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).
Schmale’s apology highlights the expectation within Palestinian society that supposedly-independent UN officials will participate in demonizing Israel, including by hiding information that portrays Israel in a positive light, as well as the capitulation by such officials to the Palestinian narrative
Like many misnomers about international law and Israel, distortions regarding proportional responses to aggression are central to NGO political advocacy campaigns that exploit legal rhetoric for demonization.
In the framework of a ceasefire between Israel and the factions in Gaza, led by Hamas, NGO Monitor emphasizes the need for international actors, NGOs, and UN institutions to implement stringent procedures and regulations in order to prevent the rearming of Hamas and other terror actors in Gaza.
NGOs and their officials have focused almost exclusively on demonizing Israel for responding to the attacks and alleging “indiscriminate” and “disproportionate” violations, while at the same time ignoring Palestinian war crimes.
