On May 1, 2019, Rep. Betty McCollum (D-MN) introduced the ‘‘Promoting Human Rights for Palestinian Children Living Under Israeli Military Occupation Act’’ (HR 2407). The bill is based largely on the lobbying efforts and accusations of Defense for Children International-Palestine (DCI-P).

Amnesty International (AI)

Amnesty International disproportionately singles out Israel for condemnation, focusing solely on the conflict with the Palestinians, misrepresenting the complexity of the conflict, and ignoring more severe human rights violations in the region. Amnesty distorts international law, misusing terms like “collective punishment,” “occupying power,” and “disproportionate” in its condemnations of Israel’s Gaza policy.

Human Rights Watch (HRW)

The condemnation by Joe Stork of Human Rights Watch (HRW) of Israels response to rocket bombardment from Gaza exploits and distorts international law. His claim that Gaza remains occupied is a politically based fiction designed to negate Israels legal and moral right to self-defense. Further, there is no legal or moral precedent for a country to be forced to provide a hostile neighbor with the means to continue attacks on its territory and against its civilians. HRWs statement is a moral muddle that further undermines the universality of human rights.

Tree of Life

Since 2003, Tree of Life has organized trips to Israel and the West Bank. Participants of the tours meet with members of highly politicized NGOs. Upon completion of the program, the participants return to their home countries where many engage in anti-Israel advocacy, including advocating for BDS campaigns and asking to “stop sending billions of dollars worth of weapons to Israel.”
