The United States and Canada are not immune to the negative consequences of NGO funding. While not as extensive as the problems in Europe, some American funding does support pro-BDS groups.
Media statements from KAIROS and its supporters have claimed that there is no evidence that the organization was active in anti-Israel campaigns, such as BDS (boycotts, divestment, and sanctions). This information is inconsistent with information published by KAIROS. KAIROS published a strategy paper that endorses divestment from Israel, explicitly promoting the campaign in the U.S. Presbyterian Church and led by Sabeel. The text also describes KAIROS plans to coordinate these activities among its member churches.

This political advocacy on an extremely complex issue is inconsistent with KAIROS status as a humanitarian aid organization funded by the Canadian government. Through media statements and in cooperation with groups such as the PNGO, Alternative Information Center, Palestinian Agricultural Relief Committee (PARC), and Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD), Alternatives promotes the demonization of Israel, contributes to the conflict, and requires greater scrutiny from the Canadian government.

American Near East Refugee Aid (ANERA) is a major NGO that claims to provide "direct financial assistance and/or gifts in kind to Palestinian-Arab refugees and other needy individuals in the Middle East. With a budget of over $24 million (2005) provided by the US government and a range of private donors and organizations, most of ANERAs focus is on development assistance and emergency relief, and the quality of these programs is considered to be very high. However, as the following report demonstrates, this NGO also engages in biased anti-Israeli political activities, and its publications erase the context of terrorism and promote the Palestinian narrative while falsely claiming to work with all people living in impoverished communities. Such activity is inconsistent with ANERAs proclaimed objectives.
