Gaza Community Mental Health Programme (GCMHP)

  • Website: http://www.gcmhp.net/
  • Founded in 1990 to “to enhance the capacity of the community in dealing with mental health problems based on the principles of justice, humanity, and respect for human rights”
  • Funders include: Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway (via UNRWA), Municipality of Torino (Italy), Peres Center for Peace, Associazione Comunità Papa Giovanni XXIII (Italy)
  • Sponsors workshops, public meetings, and therapeutic programs on issues of mental health and human rights
  • Politically biased, attributes social problems in Gaza only to the Israeli “occupation,” and ignores intra-Palestinian violence and corruption
  • Involved in political campaigning: has signed petitions for economic and academic boycotts of Israel and on November 12, 2005, GCMHP hosted a delegation of European Parliamentarians and described to them the “psychological violence” waged by Israel in Gaza and claimed that “the disengagement was a mirage to be consumed by the Western Media.”
  • Board of Advisors includes Ruchama Marton, founder of Physicians for Human Rights- Israel.
